The Law of Attraction and Puss-kittens
I’m sure you’ve all read Rhonda Byrne’s book or seen the DVD ‘The Secret’, the basic tenet of which is that what you think about you bring about. I was reminded of this because of what happened soon after writing about cats in the newsletter (#59). In it I expressed disappointment that I no longer had cats in my life and how I was looking forward to the day when that would all change. It would appear that I had put that message out to the universe loudly and clearly.
I was working at home and went outside to bring in the mail. In walked the neighbour’s cat whom I hadn’t seen in months. He proceeded to make himself quite at home, investigating the entire house, as cats do, then plonked himself down on the floor beside me as I worked. After a few minutes he jumped onto the chair, the piano and my desk, scattering papers as he went and daring me, with gently swaying tail, to try to keep typing and looking at the screen with his bulk in the way. When I left the house shortly after to go to the gym, I had to physically remove him from the premises, so determined was he to stay. He sat on the verandah while I walked out the gate.
Just as I was leaving the gym to return home, the local cat came in as he often does. This time I patted him and proceeded to go down the stairs. He protested loudly so I stopped and patted him again, after which he followed me out the door while I went on my way. About fifty metres down the road I could hear a ‘Meow’ from behind and there was the cat, tearing up the footpath after me! I waited till he caught up and patted him again. This time he didn’t follow me, realising I really meant to leave him behind. The whole experience was quite bizarre. What cat would go to all that trouble?
So what do we make of all this? According to ‘The Secret’ there is no such thing as coincidence. I had apparently invoked the presence of two cats which made my day.
I said nothing about this to my (now adult) children but one of them is getting me a kitten (maybe two) for Christmas! Apparently I need a cat or two.
I hope that whatever you have been wishing for materialises, whether you realise you’ve been wishing for it or not. Have a wonderful break and I look forward to connecting with you at the end of January.

Some comments from the ECCPA Conference 2008 ‘
Some good ideas for relaxing children.
I liked the stretching and relaxing with scarves. The whole session is very good for classroom teaching as an extra part of their day. It helps to re-focus on the new activity.
Very relaxing session. The presenter was passionate.
I learnt different ways to relax children instead of expecting them to just lie down. Great ideas to help them calm down.
I learnt about teaching relaxation gradually, not getting children to lie still immediately.
